Eastbound I-10 Closed For Semi Submerged In Louisiana Bayou

New Orleans police have shut down eastbound I-10 after a semi left the road and became partially submerged the water.

The crash was reported around 9 a.m near the Twin Span. When police arrived on scene, the cab of the truck was under water between two bridges while the trailer remained partially visible above the water.

The truck driver was trapped inside the cab for some time, but the latest reports indicate that divers were able to extract him. Rescue crews were seen administering CPR to the driver, but his condition in unknown at this time.

The crash has impacted traffic in both directions on I-10. Westbound lanes are open but there are reportedly four mile delays. I-10 eastbound is shut down from Michoud Boulevard to the Irish Bayou and there are two mile backups reported there.

It is unclear if any other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The incident is still under investigation.
