The FMCSA announced today that they are seeking input on a proposal that would allow individuals between the ages of 18 and 21 to drive commercial vehicles interstate if they completed heavy vehicle driver training while serving with the military.
The proposal calls for a three year pilot program that would compare the safety records of participating younger drivers to their counterparts who are 21 and older. The FMCSA says the results of that comparison will help to determine whether age is a significant factor in safety.
The FMCSA is seeking public input on the proposal starting on Monday, August 22. After that date, you’ll be allowed to provide comments on the pilot program here. The comments provided will help to shape the development of the pilot program.
