FMCSA Issues Reminder About ELDs

Hotshot hauler to FMCSA: Can I install sleeper berth in pickup?

This morning the FMCSA issued two “important notes regarding electronic logging devices” or ELDs.

Deadline For Transition Set For 2017

The first note issued was a reminder that all drivers using paper logs must make the switch to ELDs by December 17, 2017. The only exception would be for drivers who have trucks equipped with automatic onboard recording devices (AOBRDs). FMCSA says that drivers using AOBRDs prior to December 18, 2017 may continue to use them in place of ELDs until December 16, 2019.

FMCSA: Make Sure Your ELD Device Is Approved Prior To Purchase

The notice also reminds drivers and carriers to make sure that the ELDs that they purchased a device that is certified and registered with FMCSA: “Devices not vendor-certified by manufacturers and registered with FMCSA may not be compliant with the FMCSRs.”
