Florida Trash Truck Driver Survives 100 Foot Fall From I-95

Published:

A City of Miami garbage truck driver is lucky to have survived after crashing his truck through a concrete barrier and plunging 100 feet, landing in a children’s park in Little Havana.

Garbage Truck Driver Loses Control On Exit Ramp

Authorities say the crash happened at about 5 p.m. on the I-95 southbound exit ramp when the garbage truck driven by Kaseem Smith hit and then went over a concrete barrier. The truck fell about 100 feet, splitting the cab apart from the container and ejecting Smith.

Driver In Critical Condition

The truck crushed two cars near the entrance of the Jose’ Marti Park, but no one besides Smith was injured. At last report, he was in the ICU in critical condition.

Because of the President’s Day holiday, the park’s after school program which hosts about 100 children was cancelled.

Investigators are still trying to determine why Smith lost control of the truck.
