A tour bus carrying the crew of rock legend Greg Allman crashed today because the driver says that he choked while drinking coffee.
There were 10 people aboard the tour bus heading south on I-77 near Goldtown, West Virginia, when the crash happened at approximately 5 a.m. According to reports, the bus driver began to choke on a sip of coffee, then veered into the northbound lanes of I-77, crashed through a guardrail and into a hill, and came to a stop after colliding with a tree. Investigators say that the tree stopped the bus from landing in a creek just a few feet away.
Three crew members were injured and transported to the hospital. All were listed in stable condition and then released. Greg Allman was not one of the passengers on the tour bus.
The Greg Allmand band will perform at the Clay Center in Charleston tonight as scheduled.
