Expect increased police presence on the roads this weekend as Highway Patrol Troopers nationwide gear up for a nationwide targeted effort to stop dangerous driving during the Labor Day holiday.
Troopers across the country will be out in force for Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), an enforcement campaign that will run from 6 p.m. on Friday through midnight on Monday.
Officers will be highly visible on the highways and they will be on the lookout for seatbelt violations, speed limit violations, and impaired drivers.
Troopers also encourage drivers to help them keep the roads safe by reporting suspected impaired or dangerous drivers.
Operation C.A.R.E. was founded in 1977 by Sgt. Gary Ernst of the Michigan State Police and First Sergeant Gene Neff of the Indiana State Police.
