A Delaware man says that he is alive because he was in the bathroom when an out of control semi crashed into his house this morning.
The crash happened just after 5 a.m. in New Castle. According to reports, a truck had recently left the Canada Dry plant when the driver somehow lost control and hit a parked car, then slammed into the porch and front wall of a home on Moores Lane.
Rescue crews had to extract the truck driver from his crashed rig. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported.

Homeowner Bob Iwanowski said that he is normally on the porch smoking a cigarette at the time of the morning that the crash happened. This morning, however, he found himself in the bathroom at the time of the crash, which may have saved his life. He said that the whole house moved a foot in the crash.
Iwanowski’s home was seriously damaged in the crash, but no one else was home and no other injuries were reported.
Iwanowski said that he gave the truck driver a piece of his mind after the crash: “I came outside, there’s the driver standing in my driveway, and I just laid into him.”
Iwanowski says that this is the second time that a semi has crashed into the house in the 30 years that he has lived there.
New Castle police are still investigating the crash.
