Man Tries To Kill Common Law Wife By Crashing Passenger Side Of Vehicle Into Truck

A Winnipeg man has been arrested after allegedly forcing his common law wife into a vehicle and then crashing her side of the car into a parked 18 wheeler.

The incident began when he 31-year-old man and his 21-year-old partner began arguing outside of a nightclub around 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. The man drove off, assaulting the woman and threatening her. Finally, police say that the man intentionally crashed the passenger side of the vehicle into a parked truck. Police believe that he was driving at a high rate of speed at the time. The man ran from the crash, leaving the woman trapped inside

The woman was wearing a seatbelt and survived the crash, but crews had to use extraction equipment to free her from the vehicle. She is in stable condition.

The man was under a court order not to have contact with the woman at the time of the incident. His charges range from attempted murder to kidnapping to assault to overcoming resistance by attempting to choke another person. He remains in custody.
