One person was killed and two others severely hurt when a crane as long as a city block collapsed in lower Manhattan this morning.
The collapse happened just before 8:30 on Worth Street in Tribeca. When the crane toppled over, it landed on several parked cars, trapping some motorists inside. The collapse also killed a 38 year old pedestrian and caused serious injuries to two other people.
138 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The New York Fire Department says it is too soon to say exactly what caused the crane to collapse.
New York is currently under a winter weather advisory with wind gusts as high as 29 m.p.h.
