Missing Trucker Found Dead Almost One Day After Crashing Into Deep Ditch

Indiana police are investigating the death of a truck driver who was reported missing and was found almost a day later crashed into a ditch so deep that his truck was not visible from the road.

Trucker Reported Missing Hours After Crashing

According to police statements, 53-year-old Doug W. Buzzard was driving east on U.S. 24 near Woodburn late Monday or in the early morning hours on Tuesday when his truck left the road for some reason and crashed into a deep ditch.

When Buzzard didn’t show up to his destination on Tuesday morning, his company contacted police at about 9:30 a.m. Indiana State Police were able to ping Buzzard’s cell phone to narrow down his location.

Buzzard’s truck was finally discovered in the evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that the truck could not be seen from the roadway.

Foul Play Not Suspected

Investigators say that they do not suspect foul play in Buzzard’s death at this time, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of his death.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
