Montana Governor Steve Bullock has temporarily suspended hours of service regulations for some truck drivers in his state over fear that harsh winter weather could result in heating fuel shortages.
Bullock signed an Executive Order on Wednesday to temporarily suspend hours of service requirements for truckers hauling propane, diesel fuel, and heating oil. It is in effect until January 27, 2017.
According to the Governor’s office, “This Order will ensure the timely and necessary delivery of petroleum products so that Montanans keep warm in their homes and continue to work, even in the harshest of winter conditions.”
Per the Executive Order, a carrier cannot require a truck driver who is fatigued to operate. Further, if a driver informs a carrier that he or she is fatigued and needs immediate rest, the normal hours of service regulations must be followed.
