Motorist Found With Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound After Crashing Into Semi

Published:

Tennessee police say that a motorist was found suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he rear ended a semi on I-75 yesterday.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75 in Knox County.

An SUV driven by 41 year old motorist Carroll Best crashed into the rear end of a tractor trailer. The truck driver reported that he got out to check on Best after the crash and that he appeared to be okay.

However, when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they found that Best had suffered what appeared to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Best was transported to a nearby hospital. The severity of his condition is unknown, but he is still alive.

The truck driver was not hurt in the crash.

Police were able to reopen I-75 around 4:30, but the road closure caused 5 mile traffic backups.

The incident is still under investigation.
