The truck driver accused of crashing into a limo transporting comedian Tracy Morgan pled not guilty this afternoon to charges of manslaughter.
The crash occurred in June of 2014 on the New Jersey Turnpike when former Walmart truck driver Kevin Roper allegedly failed to slow for traffic and hit the limo. Morgan and other passengers were injured and one man was killed.
In December, Roper was indicted on charges of aggravated manslaughter charge, vehicular homicide and eight counts of aggravated assault.
Roper entered a not guilty plea for aggravated manslaughter — an offense which carries a 10 to 30-year sentence.
Investigators from the NTSB allege that Roper had not slept for 28 hours prior to the crash. Ropers lawyer has previously told the press that the NTSB did not have all of the facts in the case before they made their determinations. He plans to begin procedures to have the case thrown out in the coming weeks.
