A man suspected of committing armed robbery threatened a deputy with a firearm and was shot at a Pilot truck stop in Georgia today.
Police were on the lookout for a getaway car after a white male reportedly robbed a grocery store in Hahira. A deputy from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office spotted a vehicle that matched the description and confronted the driver at a Pilot truck stop on I-75 near Exit 11. According to a report from the Sheriff’s office, the suspect exited the car and pointed a gun at the deputy. It was at this time that the deputy shot him.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital. The exact nature and severity of his injuries are unknown.
The female passenger in the suspect’s car was taken in for questioning.
No one else was hurt during the incident.
The deputy was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
