A man who was shot at least three times was able to escape from the suspected shooters by hitching a ride on the side step of a stranger’s semi truck.
Victim Runs Away After Taking At Least Three Gunshots
The shooting happened yesterday morning near East 40th Street in Cleveland, Ohio. The 30 year old victim was shot at least twice in the leg and once in the stomach. He was able to run away from his attackers.
The victim then climbed on the passenger side of a semi driven by a Florida-based driver who happened to be lost. Gripping the side mirror, the victim told the truck driver that he had been shot and was being pursued, according to police reports.
Trucker Brings Victim To Police Who Have Suspects Pulled Over
Meanwhile, officers received reports of shots fired in the area. Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority officers witnessed two people running towards a white Ford SUV. Police soon located and pulled over the vehicle on East 55th Street near Crayton Avenue.
As officers had the Ford pulled over, the semi carrying the shooting victim on the side step pulled up next to the police. The truck driver had seen the lights and heard the sirens on East 55th Street and stopped to get the victim help.
Officers provided the shooting victim with medical attention until EMS crews arrived.
Suspects Arrested
Police found a loaded gun in the SUV.
The two occupants of the Ford, a 23 year old man and a 21 year old woman, were arrested on suspicion of felonious assault, but they have not been formally charged at this time.
The incident is still under investigation.
