Six State Speed Crackdown Starts Today

Published:

Starting today, law enforcement officers in six states will be targeting drivers of passenger and commercial vehicles who violate the speed limit.

The operation is called “Obey The Sign Or Pay The Fine” and it runs from September 23 through September 25 in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. It is billed as a “zero-tolerance” campaign, meaning that anyone driving above the posted speed limit will be ticketed if caught.

During the speed enforcement blitz, approximately 220 law enforcement agencies will patrol over 5,700 miles of highway.

The NHTSA stated that police will ticket both motorists and professional drivers for speeding: “When we are talking about looking for speeders, we are talking about all kinds of speeders. That includes the commercial vehicle operators.

In 2015, 2,964 were killed in crashes in the six participating states. Around 27% of those crashes were speed-related.
