Wired: Truck Driving Is About To Become Even Less Fun

Published:

A new article in Wired magazine explores how self-driving trucks probably won’t put truckers out of a job — but they may make truck driving even more of a pain in the neck than it already is.

April Glazer’s article entitled “Autonomous Tech Could Make Driving Semi-Trucks Even Less Fun” predicts that self-driving trucks will need truck drivers for a long time, but that those truckers are going to have long hours to fill with nothing to do. Glazer speculates that trucking companies will not allow their drivers to sit idly by and will instead find them some white collar office type work to do. She says truck drivers may end up doing paperwork, scheduling, or even handling customer service.
