At Least 30 Vehicles Involved In Pileup on I-70 In Richmond

Published:

The westbound lanes of I-70 near Richmond, Indiana, have been shut down following a pileup crash involving at least 30 vehicles, many of them 18-wheelers.

Police say that the pileup started when a car and an 18-wheeler crashed around the 147-mile marker this morning. The initial crash caused other chain reaction crashes, leading to the pileup.

Police say that clean up will take hours and that they do not know when I-70 will reopen.

Authorities will likely detour traffic from westbound I-70 to U.S. 35 to State Road 1.

Injuries have been reported, but the exact number and nature of the injuries is still unknown.
