Long term road closures in the Spaghetti Bowl in downtown Las Vegas are expected to be such a pain in the rear that the Nevada Department of Transportation has dubbed the project “Car-Nado.”
“Project Neon” First Phase Begins Tonight
“Car-Nado” will be caused by NDOT’s “Project Neon”, a years long endeavor to demolish the bridge that connects connects northbound I-15 to northbound U.S. Highway 95 and then to rebuild the bridge slightly north of its current location..
The first phase of the “Project Neon” road closures will begin at 10 p.m. tonight and will continue through February 2017. The entire project will not be complete until 2019.
For tonight’s closures, Nevada transportation officials will be shutting down the I-15 northbound and southbound ramps connecting to Highway 95. These ramps will be closed until late February. Additionally, the ramps connecting I-15 to Martin Luther King Boulevard will be shut down from tonight until late February.
Nevada DOT Expects Heavy Delays
Transportation officials say that they expect lengthy delays as some traffic pours onto side streets and as traffic is reduced to a single lane in some areas.
Las Vegas officials say that the chose the name “Car-Nado” because California has already trademarked the term “Carmageddeon (No, really).
