Dump Truck Driver Electrocuted When Bed Hits Power Line

Published:

A dump truck driver lost his life to electrocution in Texas this morning when the bed of his truck struck high powered electrical lines.

The incident happened around 10:30 in the Moss Hill area of Liberty County. Thomas Mendoza, Jr, 25, was working with his father at a dump site off CR 2107.

According to reports, Mendoza for some reason raised the bed of the dump truck, causing it to strike the power lines directly over the truck. Then Mendoza touched the truck and grounded himself. The truck caught fire and Mendoza was electrocuted.

His father, who owns a small family trucking company, reportedly dragged his son from the truck. C.P.R. was attempted, but Mendoza could not be revived. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

An autopsy has been ordered on Mendoza’s body.
