Yesterday an Orange County Fire Captain jumped from an overpass onto the interstate below where he was hit by a semi truck.

The incident began around 11 a.m. in Mission Viejo, California when the California Highway Patrol received a report about a man climbing a chain link fence on an overpass.

Police say that 41 year old Captain Eric Weuve jumped from the overpass onto I-5 and died when he was hit by a semi truck.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are unsure of the motive for the apparent suicide. Weuve was an eleven year veteran of the fire department and leaves behind two children.

Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer said, “Incidents like this serve as a reminder the holidays are a very tough time for a lot of people, so just hope everybody spends a great time with their family and remind yourself and your family just how important and precious life is.
