Indiana Police Search For Trucker Involved In Fatal Hit And Run On I-65

Published:

A woman was killed yesterday when she exited her SUV to check on a suspicious noise and was hit by a semi that did not stop.

The incident happened in the southbound lanes of Indiana’s I-65 near the Fair Oaks exit just before 11 a.m. Thirty year old Nika Trippi was traveling with her mother and two children when she pulled the SUV “well off the roadway” onto the shoulder of the interstate to investigate a noise coming from the vehicle, police say.

Troopers say that as soon as Trippi exited the SUV and shut the door, she was struck by a semi. The semi continued south on I-65.

Trippi was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV was not hit by the truck and no one inside was injured.

Witnesses told police that the truck that struck Trippi was a gray older model Freightliner pulling a gray enclosed box trailer.

If you have information on the incident, you can contact Indiana State Police at 219-696-6242.
