Motorist Injured By Ice Chunk From Semi

Published:

The Minnesota State Patrol has issued a warning to drivers to clear snow and ice from their vehicles after a motorist was injured by a large chunk of ice that crashed though her windshield.

The incident happened on Monday on Interstate 694 near Highway 36 when an ice chunk fell off of a FedEx semi, hitting a vehicle in a different lane.

The motorist stated, “The windshield shattered in front of my daughter and me. It’s frightening to see that hard impact spot directly over my daughter’s head and face. I couldn’t hug or touch my daughter at all until we were home and showered because it caused us both to bleed.

The truck driver was not cited, but his company agreed to pay for repairs to the damaged vehicle.

The Minnesota State Patrol reminds drivers that they are responsible for removing ice and snow from their vehicles before they begin driving.
