Operation Safe Driver Week 2016 Results Released

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has released the results from their annual truck safety enforcement campaign, Operation Safe Driver Week.

This year, Operation Safe Driver Week was held from October 16 – 22 across the U.S. and Canada. The focus for this year’s campaign was cracking down on unsafe driving habits likely to contribute to a crash. These driving behaviors include speeding, seatbelt violations, distracted driving, and following too closely.

Here are some of the highlights from this year’s results.

  • 20,648 total citations or warnings were issued.
  • Motorists were issued 9,466 citations or warnings.
  • Commercial vehicle drivers were issued 11,182 citations or warnings.

Top 5 Warnings And Citations Issued To Commercial Vehicle Drivers

  1. 1. State and local moving violations (56.7%)
  2. 2. Speeding (19.6%)
  3. 3. Failure to obey a traffic control device (7.6%)
  4. 4. Failure to wear a seatbelt (7.1%)
  5. Using a handheld phone (2.4%0

Top 5 Warnings And Citations Issued To Non-Commercial Drivers

  1. 1. Speeding (39.4%)
  2. 2. State and local moving violations (37.1%)
  3. 3. Failure to wear seatbelt (11.7%)
  4. 4. Failure to obey traffic control device (1.9%)
  5. 5. Inattentive or careless driving (1.5%)
