Stolen Big Rig Chase And Standoff Ends With Arrest

Published:

An hour-long police pursuit of a stolen big rig ended in a SWAT team standoff and an arrest in Texas this afternoon.

The incident started when a truck hauling produce was reported stolen by Intrade Industries after it was overdue for an appointment by 30 hours. The company believed that the truck was in Texas based on GPS information.

A Texas State Trooper saw the truck on I-20 in Kauffman County just after 11 a.m. He attempted to pull the truck over, but the driver would not stop. The truck driver fled north on I-635, then east on I-30. Over two dozen law enforcement vehicles joined the chase. Police made multiple attempts to stop the truck with spike strips. Several blown tires and nearly an hour after the pursuit began, the truck came to a stop on a service road in Greenville.

The police surrounded the truck with guns drawn. An hour into the standoff, the SWAT team arrived on scene with an armored vehicle. The SWAT team could see a dog that appeared to be a golden retriever in the truck, but could not see the driver. They fired two shots of tear gas into the truck.

After a couple of minutes, the truck door opened and the dog ran out. Moments later, a man exited the truck and was tackled by SWAT team members and arrested.

The driver of the truck was identified as David A. Arnold, 60. Arnold is the designated driver of the truck. He has been charged with evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The dog was not hurt during the incident and has been taken into custody by Animal Control.
