Store Tows Semi While Driver Shops Inside

Published:

A California based trucker is angry after an Ohio store towed his truck during the 90 minutes that he was inside shopping yesterday.

Trucker Returns From Shopping Trip To Find Truck Missing

Trucker Daryl Winslow had just delivered a load in Vandalia and had stopped at the Meijer in Huber Heights with the intention of shopping and having coffee. When he came out of the store, his truck was gone.

He later learned that the store had towed his truck.

Winslow admits that there were signs in the parking lot forbidding “unauthorized vehicles”, but they do not explicitly prohibit truck parking.

Store Says Vehicles Were Towed Per Unauthorized Vehicles Policy

A Meijer official responded that there were 19 trucks in the store’s parking lot that morning, which made receiving deliveries challenging. “Our store leadership had to approach all of the unauthorized vehicles and ask them to move. Remaining trucks without drivers were towed per our unauthorized vehicles policy,” said a spokesman for Meijer.

Police did not take an incident report.

Winslow has lodged a complaint with store officials asking them to clarify their parking policy so that other drivers don’t find themselves in a similar situation.

He also wants to be reimbursed $381.75 for the cab ride and the tow bill.
