Texting Teen Charged After Causing Nasty 10 Vehicle Crash

Published:

A seventeen year old girl is facing charges after Maine police say she caused a ten vehicle crash while distracted by her cellphone.

The crash happened at the intersection of Route 1 and Spur Road in York, Maine, around 4 p.m. on October 13th. According to police, the teen was stopped at a red light preparing to turn left onto Route 1. According to reports, she was distracted by her phone when she started to make the left turn while the light was still red.

While she was illegally in the intersection, a dump truck driven by William Lambert swerved to avoid her vehicle. The truck clipped the teen’s car and then overturned, spilling its load of dirt onto other vehicles and the roadway.

Ten vehicles including one motorcycle were involved in the chain-reaction crash.

Four people were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries after the crash.

Police have not released the identity of the teen driver since she is a minor, but they did state that she has been charged with a red light violation and an interim license violation for someone under 18 using a cellphone.

York police added that while the investigation into the crash continues “right now it’s looking like the truck driver was not at fault.
