The Florida Highway Patrol says that charges could be pending for a truck driver following a violent five vehicle crash that killed one motorist early this morning.
Heavy Fog Reduced Visibility At Time Of Crash
The crash was reported just before 6 a.m. on U.S. 27 in Lake County. Police say that there was dense fog in the area at the time of the crash. A fog warning was in effect.

According to reports, a semi hauling food products driven by 43 year old Tyrone Ivy was eastbound on Independence Boulevard when he came to a stop sign. After stopping, Ivy attempted to turn left onto northbound U.S. 27.
Four Vehicles Hit Semi As It Attempts Left Turn
At the time that Ivy attempted the turn, there were four passenger vehicles traveling south on U.S. 27. All four of those vehicles struck Ivy’s truck.
One of the pickups that hit the side of the semi went underneath the trailer. The pickup driver, 21 year old Kevin Cottle, died at the scene.
Four other motorists were transported to the hospital. Two of them suffered serious injury and the other two only sustained minor injuries.
Ivy and his passenger were not seriously injured.
Truck Driver Could Be Charged
Though FHP says that fog was a factor in the crash, they say that they will be investigating to see whether they will file charges against Ivy. Amongst other things, they are trying to determine if the truck was outfitted with proper lights and reflectors and whether Ivy was in violation of hours of service regulations: “We’ve got to make sure that that truck driver was following all the rules as far as time’s concerned.”
