Trucker Killed While Trying To Chain Up

Published:

A Vancouver, Washington trucker was killed while chaining up on I-84 in Oregon on Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, fog reduced visibility to about 1/4 of a mile while ice made roads slippery around 8:30 a.m. near North Powder, where the crash happened.

Igor Nikolaychuk, 50, was working on putting chains on the left rear axle of his trailer when a passenger vehicle began to slide on ice. The car struck Nikolaychuk and pushed him under the trailer.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The car driver, Mckenna Hamilton, 21 years old, was wearing her seatbelt and was not seriously injured in the crash.
