VIDEO: Out Of Control Semi Slams Into Michigan State Trooper

Published:

Michigan State Police have released video of a crash that almost cost a trooper his life in order to remind drivers to move over for emergency vehicles.

The crash happened on Monday morning in the westbound lanes of I-696 in Southfield. A trooper was sitting in his SUV with his seatbelt buckled to protect other troopers who were investigating a previous crash when a semi in the right lane lost control and crashed into the SUV.

The trooper in the SUV suffered broken ribs and a broken leg in the crash. He has reported difficulty breathing but is expected to fully recover.

No other injuries were reported.

Charges Pending Against Truck Driver

Police are still investigating the incident, but say that they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Lieutenant Michael Shaw stated, “there’s nothing that indicates that he was intoxicated or on any type of narcotics. It was more toward the fact that he was just going a little bit too fast and couldn’t control his vehicle when the time came to try to stop.

Shaw also mentioned that he was disappointed that none of the motorists stopped to render aid or act as witnesses following the crash.

The truck driver is cooperating with the investigation. Charges against him are pending the results of a blood test.
