Gunshot Motorist Who Dragged Trooper Crashes Into Semi

Published:

Pennsylvania’s southbound I-83 has been shut down for an attempted homicide investigation after a motorist dragged a trooper and tried to crush him against a concrete barrier.

The incident happened this afternoon around 1:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-83 near mile marker 24.

Motorist Flees Traffic Stop, Dragging Trooper

A Pennsylvania State Trooper had pulled over a motorist for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the motorist fled and the trooper somehow became stuck to the vehicle. He was dragged for about three tenths of a mile.

The motorist reportedly attempted to crush the trooper against a concrete barrier, “causing the high probability of Death to the Trooper,” according to a news release.

The trooper was able to fire his weapon at the motorist.

After he was shot several times, the motorist continued to try to flee from police.

Wounded Motorist Crashes Into Median And Semi

The motorist reportedly tried to squeeze his vehicle in between a semi truck in the left lane and the median barrier, but instead crashed into the median, then into the left rear tires of the truck, and then back into the median, where it finally came to a stop.

Rescue crews administered medical attention, but the motorist was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The trooper’s injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The truck driver was not injured.

At last report, southbound I-83 was still closed between Exit 28 and Exit 24. One lane of northbound I-83 is also closed. Lanes are not expected to reopen for several hours.
