Indiana Police Tase Trucker After He Led Them On A Wild Hour Long Pursuit

Published:

Shots were fired and squad cars struck during a semi truck police pursuit that began in Illinois and ended in Hammond, Indiana, today, “terrorizing” the community, according to a police statement.

The pursuit began around 10:45 this morning when a police officer in Whiting attempted to stop a semi because it wasn’t on a designated truck route.

The truck driver refused to stop and led police on what became a multi-agency pursuit through the cities of Whiting, Hammond, East Chicago, Lansing, and Calumet City. Two squad cars from Hammond were struck during the pursuit. The truck also hit parked cars in Whiting and was involved in two crashes in Calumet City.

Police used stop sticks at several points during the pursuit. The semi finally hit the stop sticks in Hammond, but apparently wasn’t stopped.

Near the end of the pursuit, police resorted to shooting at the truck’s tires to bring it to a stop. Police say at least three shots were fired.

The truck driver, a 44 year old from Florida, was in custody by 11:40 a.m. He was Tased just before he was arrested.

The truck driver was transported to the hospital for treatment for injuries caused by the Taser probes. Charges are pending.
