New York State Trooper Killed Trying To Help Lost Trucker

A New York State Trooper was killed in the line of duty yesterday morning when he was hit by a passenger vehicle while trying to assist a lost truck driver.

The incident happened at 6:15 a.m. on Ballard Road in Wilton.

Police say that Trooper Tim Pratt was helping a lost truck driver who had pulled over in the median to turn around. Pratt talked to the truck driver and as he stepped back, he was struck by an SUV.

Pratt was critically injured and died hours later at a hospital.

The SUV driver stopped after the crash and cooperated with the investigation. Police are calling the incident an unfortunate mishap and say that they do not plan to file charges against the motorist. “There doesn’t appear to be any criminality involved. This was a tragic accident.
