Overnight I-65 Closures In Indianapolis Coming Soon

Published:

The Indiana Department of Transportation has warned drivers to expect up to 20 overnight closures on I-65 in downtown Indianapolis starting in late September.

INDOT says that the road closures are part of a $4.6 million project to modernize and maintain the I-65 bridges from Senate Avenue to Alabama Street. The road closures are expected to have a major impact on overnight traffic.

Though INDOT has yet to release specific dates for the start and completion of the project, they have released more information on what to expect when the closures start.

  • All northbound lanes of I-65 will shut down from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Signs will direct traffic (including commercial vehicle traffic) to take I-465 around the city.
  • During the overnight closures, the  northbound I-65 Exit 114 ramp to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street/West Street, Pine Street entrance ramp to northbound I-65, and the  the northbound I-65 Exit 113 ramps to and from Meridian and Pennsylvania streets will all close intermittently.
  • All but one lane of southbound I-65 will be closed from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.
  • The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street/West Street entrance ramp to southbound I-65 will also be shut down during the overnight closures.
  • Signs will direct southbound traffic (including commercial vehicle traffic) to use I-465 around the city.
