Spring Construction Projects Raise Concern About Aggressive Driving
The widening of I-70 to three will cause multiple work zones with reduced speed limits to pop up this spring and last through the summer.
Pennsylvania police hope that increasing enforcement for aggressive driving behaviors like speeding and tailgating now will raise awareness about safe driving in construction areas for some time to come. They plan to use radar, planes for aerial enforcement, and unmarked vehicles to crack down on aggressive drivers.
Police Remind Drivers That Construction Zone Penalties Are Much Higher
State Police also hope that the campaign will help to remind drivers that the penalties for aggressive driving behaviors in construction zones are much stiffer: “Construction zone fines are automatically doubled. And the big one people don’t realize is if you’re speeding at 11 mph or over the speed limit in a construction zone, you’re looking at an automatic 15-day license suspension. And for more serious accidents with serious bodily injury or death, there’s a mandatory prison sentence of five years.”
