Kentucky-Tennessee Border Landslide Closes I-75 Down For Weeks

Published:

A landslide south of the Kentucky-Tennessee border has closed down I-75 in both directions — and the Tennessee Department of Transportation warns that it could be weeks before the interstate reopens.

Landslide Closes I-75 In Both Directions “Indefinitely”

The rockslide started at mile marker 142 in Campbell County on Friday when the landslide began just before 4 p.m. No one was hurt, but transportation officials are not taking any chances. Originally, I-75 was expected to reopen this afternoon, but TDOT says the road is now closed indefinitely.

Detours For Wide Load Carriers

TDOT suggests the following detours for wide load carriers:

Wide-load traffic traveling I-75 South can take Exit 29 (Corbin) in Kentucky. Follow US 25E into Tennessee, and enter I-81 at Exit 8 (Morristown/White Pine).

Wide-load traffic traveling I-75 North can take I-40 East to I-81 North Exit 8 (Morristown/White Pine). Follow US 25E, and enter I-75 at Exit 29 (Corbin) in Kentucky.

With heavier spring break traffic expected, detours could tack extra hours onto your drive.
