Speed Limits To Go Up On Pennsylvania Turnpike

Published:

Starting this spring, speeds on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will increase from 65 m.p.h. to 70 m.p.h.

Pennsylvania Turnpike Speeds To Increase To 70 MPH In Some Areas

The speed limit increase comes after a nearly two year study found that a 5 m.p.h. speed increase did not have a significant impact on the number of crashes or average speed.

The sections of the Turnpike near toll booths, tunnels, or in construction zones that are currently limited to 55 m.p.h. will remain at their current speed.

Speed Limits To Change Before Summer Starts

Exact dates for the speed limit changes have not been set, but transportations officials promise that the speed limit signs will be changed before summer starts.

PennDOT is also considering raising the speed limits on Interstates 80 and 380.
