A truck vs. RV crash on Highway 58 in Oregon left one woman seriously injured and resulted in what some on the scene referred to as a “vertical jackknife.”
Truck Lost Control On Turn, Crashed Into RV
The crash happened around 4 p.m. yesterday near Lowell when the westbound truck driven by 37 year old Rana A. Tanveer lost control on a sharp turn and hit an eastbound RV driven by 62 year old Pamela Jane Herring.
According to Oregon State Police, “once the semi jackknifed, it slipped up the train trestle with the drive gears of the power unit…and so the front end of the truck is buried in the road and the rest of it is literally suspended in the air against the train trestle and on top of the RV.”
RV Passenger Had To Be Extracted By Fire Crews
Herring was trapped in the RV for two hours as fire crews and three towing companies worked together to remove the semi without further injuring her. She was later transported to the hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.
Tanveer was not injured during the crash.
Trains traveling over the bridge were delayed for hours while the scene was cleared.
Said Sergent Michael Berland from Oregon State Police: “I’ve been doing this job about seven years and I have never seen anything like this.”
Berland says speed may have been a factor in the crash.
