From now through Saturday, six states are participating in an enforcement crackdown aimed at stopping aggressive driving.
Law enforcement officials in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky are currently on the lookout for aggressive driving in both passenger and commercial vehicles.
Police On The Lookout For Aggressive Drivers
Specifically, police say that they’ll be looking for the following aggressive driving behaviors:
- Passing on the right
- Excessive horn honking
- Following too closely
- Unsafe stopping or slowing
- Driving at unsafe speeds
- Repeatedly flashing headlights
- Failure to yield
- Failure of obey traffic signs
- Unsafe operation
According to police, three of these behaviors grouped together could lead to an aggressive driving charge. In Indiana, aggressive driving is a class A misdemeanor and, if you’re convicted, you could face up to a year in jail and a $5000 fine.
Indiana troopers say that they’ll be using marked as well as unmarked vehicles during the campaign.
Police will also be checking truckers for violations during the crackdown. Scale houses in both Indiana and Kentucky will reportedly be open to catch overweight violators.
