Truck Driver Who Destroyed Historic Bridge Apologizes

The truck driver who destroyed a historic bridge in Paoli, Indiana, has issued an apology for her actions following her arraignment.

Mary Lambright, 23, famously told police that though the bridge had a posted weight limit of six tons, she wasn’t sure how many pounds six tons was and attempted to cross the bridge in a43,000-pound truck anyway, collapsing it.

I made the mistake and I’m so very sorry it happened and if I could go back and do it over again, I wouldn’t be so stupid,” Lambright said after the arraignment. She also said that the incident had happened when she was at the end of a long trip and admitted that she was tired.

Lambright and her husband are both currently unemployed. When asked whether she was fired, Lambright said that she worked for a very small trucking company and that the company had just “quit” after the bridge collapse. Lambright is not sure whether she will lose her CDL, but she is looking for work.

Lambright was arraigned on charges of reckless operation of a tractor trailer, disregarding a traffic control device, and overweight on posted bridge. She could spend up to 180 days in jail.
