“Truck Driver’s Blues” Singer Merle Haggard Dies

Published:

Country music legend Merle Haggard, famous for such classic trucking songs as “Truck Driver’s Blues”, passed away today on his 79th birthday.

Haggard had been in ill health for the past year. He was diagnosed with pneumonia last year but had since recovered somewhat and even had tour dates scheduled with Willie Nelson.

Last week, however, he cancelled all of his shows for April because of weariness from battling pneumonia for so long.

Haggard’s manager reports that the singer even told friends that he expected to die on his birthday.

In honor of the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, take a listen to “Truck Driver’s Blues”.
