A semi truck fire spread to two acres of dry brush along California’s eastbound 60 Freeway during evening rush hour yesterday, causing massive traffic backups.
Truck Fire And Explosions Reported At Rush Hour
The fire started around 4:30 p.m. in the Hacienda Heights area. Witnesses reported hearing several explosions coming from the truck.
Within 10 minutes, the blaze had spread to a quarter of an acre. By the time firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, it had spread to two and a half acres of land.
The California Highway Patrol shut down both the eastbound lanes and westbound of the 60 Freeway, causing miles long traffic backups. The freeway did not fully reopen until 12:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities Still Investigating Cause Of Fire
Police are still working to determine what started the fire and what cargo the truck was carrying.
