VIDEO: “White Van Scam” Captured In Truck Stop Parking Lot

In this video, a trucker uses his dash cam to capture the sales pitch of a “white van” scammer who attempts to sell him a questionable home theater system at a Flying J truck stop in Blacksburg, South Carolina.

According to the video description from the TruckerDashcam YouTube account:

“You sometimes see these con artists in truck stops, selling electronics that ‘fell off the truck’, are excess, or some other not exactly plausible story. I’ve run into the same scam in a handful of states. What they are usually selling is some very cheap, poor quality crap you can buy at a discount store for a percentage of what they want for it. You also sometimes buy a nice sealed box full of rocks. The boxes he showed me looked sealed, and new, but you’d be lucky to get a working unit inside that is worth $50. I did a quick search on google for this scam, in this region, and it seems this same man, in a dark blue Dodge Durango with NC tags, works a large radius around Charlotte, NC. (35 miles or so away from the location this was recorded.) Don’t buy stuff in truck stop parking lots!
There are no deals, unless it is stolen, and then you have other problems.
I’ve seen the same type of scam being worked in the same manner with laptops, cameras, expensive perfume, TVs, and even kitchen ware.

This type of scam is known as a ‘White Van Scam’, and happens world wide. The products are somewhat real, but the salesman makes fraudulent claims about the quality, features, and value of the product.
Some of the electronic products are even unsafe.”
