VIDEO: Debris Explodes From Trailer After Freight Train Crash

Published:

A truck driver leapt from his stuck rig just seconds before it was bisected by a speeding freight train in Norcross, Georgia, on Tuesday.

Truck driver Eli Mercado was moving a family from Norcross to Florida when his rig became stuck on the train tracks. Mercado said that he followed GPS and didn’t see the “No Trucks” sign until he was already stuck.

Desperate to try to save the family’s belongings, Mercado stayed in the cab as the rain approached, trying to ease it off the tracks. As he heard the train horn barreling down on him, he jumped from the cab with four seconds to spare.

No one was hurt in the crash.

Mercado received four citations for the incident.
