A truck driver was injured last night when he lost control of his rig and swerved across the median and into oncoming lanes of traffic before crashing into a car dealership and catching fire.
The crash happened in Lansing, Michigan, around 7 p.m. A 36 year old Canadian trucker was traveling east on I-96 near the South Cedar exit when the truck suddenly veered off the road, crossing the median and the westbound lanes before entering the Shaheen Chevrolet car lot. The truck crashed into a light pole and came to a stop.
Witness saw the truck driver get out of the cab and walk around. He soon got back inside the truck and then the witnesses said that the truck started to catch fire.
Emergency personnel removed the driver from the cab.
He was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. His condition is listed as serious. No other injuries were reported.
Police say that alcohol or a mental health issue may have been a factor.
The investigation into the crash continues.
