A suspect is in custody after a woman in a passenger vehicle died from a gunshot wound on I-85 before the car that she was in was hit by an 18 wheeler.
Woman Shot While Car Was In Motion
The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of I-85 in Lee County, Alabama. According to reports, a woman and three men were in a sedan traveling south on I-85 to Florida for work when the woman was shot in the head by 21-year-old Larry Bradford Moore.
Police say Moore jumped out of the car with the gun after the shooting. The driver of the sedan turned around and drove north on I-85 looking for Moore, but crashed into a barrier. The sedan was then hit by a semi truck.
Suspect Escaped By Hitching A Ride On A Semi
Police believe that Moore hopped onto a different semi that had slowed down for the crash and rode it for a short time before disappearing into a wooded area.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The two male passengers in the car were transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The truck driver wasn’t hurt.
Following a manhunt, Moore was located and arrested at a business in Valley, Alabama, in the early afternoon on Monday.
It is unclear whether the gun was discharged accidentally or on purpose.
No charges have been filed against Moore at this time.
One lane of I-85 was shut down for about six hours.
