The Washington State Patrol says that brake defects are likely the cause of a truck rollover that happened in Tacoma on Tuesday night.

WSP: Bad Brakes Contribute To Rollover Crash

According to police, the crash happened around 10 p.m. last night as a truck hauling large rolls of paper was traveling east on State Road 16 rolled over as it attempted to make the exit onto I-5.

No other vehicles were involved and no serious injuries were reported.

Washington State Trooper Brooke Bova tweeted images from the scene which appear to show the truck’s brake lines being held together by a plastic grocery bag. Bova wrote: “Rolled semi fully blocking EB16 to NB I5. Faulty brakes may have played a part in crash. WSDOT enroute to help with detour.

Citations Expected Following WSP Truck Inspection

Though the investigation is still ongoing, police say that the truck driver attempted to take the exit too fast and that he knew that his brakes were defective.

Troopers issued the truck driver one citation last night, but he could face more after the Washington State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Division inspects the truck on Wednesday.
