Border Patrol Seizes 7 Tons Of Pot In Bell Pepper Load

Border Patrol agents in Nogales, Arizona, seized close to seven tons of marijuana found in a shipment of bell peppers over the weekend.

On Saturday, a truck hauling bell peppers was pulled in for a secondary inspection at the Mariposa Commercial Facility. There, a drug dog alerted to the presence of contraband. When officers searched the truck, they discovered over 13,700 pounds of marijuana hidden in the load of peppers.

The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at $6.8 million.

The truck driver, a 46 year old citizen of Mexico, was arrested. The truck driver, his rig, and the marijuana are now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
