The California Highway Patrol says that the dump truck’s hydraulic lift was raised when it crashed into the overpass, causing a 27 foot long crack in the structure. The bed of the dump truck partially detached on impact.

CHP says that the 24 year old dump truck driver, Sukhpal Singh, was leaving a construction site and forgot to lower the bed. He will be cited for the incident.
Police do not think that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Singh suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Caltrans crews are working to determine whether the structural integrity of the overpass was compromised.
