Dump Truck With Raised Bed Strikes Palo Alto Overpass

Published:

Two lanes of Highway 101 were closed this morning after a dump truck with a raised bed struck an overpass in Palo Alto, California.

The crash happened last night just before 11 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 at Embarcadero Road.

The California Highway Patrol says that the dump truck’s hydraulic lift was raised when it crashed into the overpass, causing a 27 foot long crack in the structure. The bed of the dump truck partially detached on impact.

CHP says that the 24 year old dump truck driver, Sukhpal Singh, was leaving a construction site and forgot to lower the bed. He will be cited for the incident.

Police do not think that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Singh suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Caltrans crews are working to determine whether the structural integrity of the overpass was compromised.

CHP has asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call (650) 369-6261.
